How it started....and where its going
Hey y'all! Welcome to (IN) Stephanie's Closet.
Let me give you a bit of insight on how it all began.
I've always had a love for creating things - new things, old things into new - I get that from my mother. She was the best at it. One year I remember she made me a set of barbie clothes from old scraps of material. She didn't even use a pattern. How I wish I had them now! So when my kids were little, I did the same thing. I'd go to thrift stores and buy clothes to make them look new again. They were unique and I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for something they were just going to grow out of.
So fast forward many years later and I still love to do that. I started out going to thrift stores to purchase clothes to sell online for extra cash. Then that progressed into using my Cricut to make new shirts. Combining my two favorite things to do seemed like a no-brainer.
What my business started out to be has for sure morphed into a different direction. But that's ok, because it's still the true authentic me. Now there are (up) cycled items clothes/jewelry, new items clothes, tumblers (coming soon), glassware and hats.
I believe in 2nd chances...sometimes even 3rd chances. My purpose is to provide that to items I have thrifted. New life to items and creating with a purpose. We all are "perfectly imperfect" til we find our value.
I hope that you find value (IN) Stephanie's Closet has.
How did the name evolve?
Everyone always asks me "Why (IN) Stephanie's Closet? Why not just In Stephanie's Closet?" Well...let me tell you.
First let me give you some background. When I was a little girl (a long long time ago) my mother had a rule - Do NOT go in her closet!! Why? That's where she hid/kept everything. And I mean everything. If you needed tape, ruler, wrapping paper, thread, sewing machine, pans, paper towels, presents....it was in there. It's also how I ruined many Christmas' for myself by being nosey!!
So when I decided to start my business all I kept thinking about is my mom's closet. Mostly because I didn't know what I wanted to sell, craft or create. Why did I have to choose? My mom didn't choose what was in her closet. So (IN) Stephanie's Closet was created. My thought was that the parenthesis was like the closet that held EVERYTHING.
Now when people ask "What do you do or sell?" I can tell them....everything! A little of this and a little of that with a side of love.
Thank you Mama for all of your ideas and love.
Love,
Stephanie
